HARALD HERZIG
(violoncello)
Born in Carinthia, Harald Herzig began his cello training at the “Musikgymnasium Klagenfurt/Viktring” under Prof.Gertraud Hajdany. During his school years, he received several awards at the “Jugend musiziert” competition. At the age of fifteen, he was already performing as a cellist in a string quartet. After completing his secondary education, he went on to study concert cello at the University of Music in Vienna with Prof. Wolfgang Herzer, and graduated with a master’s degree. He was subsequently active in various chamber music formations, performing in a wide range of ensembles from trio to octet. To this day, he has remained deeply committed to exploring music from various eras, from Baroque to contemporary works. He was a member of the chamber ensemble of the Vienna Volksoper and of the Belvedere Trio, with which he performed successfully both in Austria and abroad alongside Regine Koch (violin) and Igo Koch (piano).
In addition, Harald Herzig is an active orchestral musician. He gained his first orchestral experience at the “Stadttheater Klagenfurt” and has since appeared with ensembles including the Vienna Jeunesse Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Vienna Chamber Opera, the salon orchestra “Alt-Wien”, and the Mozart Orchestra. He is still performing internationally in this field.
In 2010, he collaborated with the Johann Strauss Society of Vienna for the first time, appearing as solo cellist in a concert performance of the operetta “Der Zigeunerbaron” ( The Gypsy Baron). In 2026, he was a founding member of the “Hofballmusik Quartet”, which was established as the third in-house ensemble of the Johann Strauss Society of Vienna.
