Herbert Suchy
(viola)
The Vienna-born instrumentalist studied violin, viola, and percussion at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna as well as musicology at the University of Vienna.
Even before finishing his studies, he began performing with various orchestras. His work as a substitute with the Vienna State Opera Orchestra and in concerts with the Vienna Philharmonic was particularly influential in shaping him as an orchestral musician. He received his first permanent position with the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, and later joined the Tonkünstler Orchestra of Lower Austria. There, he served as principal violinist for 39 years and also enjoyed great success as a soloist.
Alongside his orchestral career, Herbert Suchy has always remained deeply committed to other musical genres. Herbert Suchy is currently active as a percussionist with the Hoch-und Deutschmeister Band Vienna and is also a permanent member of the folk music ensemble NÖ-Mixdur. Owing to his considerable experience particularly in the authentic interpretation of classical Viennese music, he was first engaged by the Johann Strauss Society in 2025. On that occasion, he appeared as a second violinist in a concert with the Johann Strauss Concert Schrammeln. Following the success of this collaboration, he was invited to become a founding member of the Hofballmusik Quartet Vienna, established by the Johann Strauss Society of Vienna in 2026, in which he performs as a violist.
